    Northwestern Wrestler Earns Double Gold at 1997 Maccabiah Games

    EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern wrestler Scott Schatzman (Chesterfield, Mo./Parkway Central) won the gold medal in both the freestyle and Greco-Roman competition at the 15th Maccabiah Games, July 20-23 in Rašanana, Israel. Schatzman, a junior, was victorious at 138.75 pounds in both styles. He was a runner-up at the 1997 Pan American Games and a 1997 University Nationals freestyle champion. Schatzman qualified for the Games by winning a trial event in Wilmington, Del., March 29-30.

    The Maccabiah Games is the fourth-largest international sports event in the world. The competition involves Jewish athletes from around the world taking part in 32 different sports.
