COLUMBUS, Ohio -- On the second day of the ITA Midwest Regional Championships, the Northwestern Wildcats enjoyed success in both the main singles and main doubles draws.

Saturday's competition began with the round of 32 in the main singles draw. Northwestern was represented on the second day by two of its top entries, Joshua Graves (Milwaukee, Wis./Nicolet) and Spencer Wolf (Coral Springs, Fla./Laurel Springs) entered the field as the ninth and 13th seeds, respectively in the deep draw.

Graves faced Illinois State's Jusso Ojanen in the second round. The Milwaukee, Wis., native was able to come out on top of the well-played opening set, 7-6 before disposing of his opponent in the second frame, 6-4, to advance to the round of 16. There, Graves, met Ohio State's Ille Van Engelen, the draw's eighth seed. Van Engelen, competing on his home turf, got the best of Graves in straight sets, 7-6, 7-6.

Wolf met with another Big Ten foe, Illinois' Bruno Abdelnour in the round of 32 Saturday morning. The junior Wildcat came out firing early and captured the first set, 6-4. Unfortunately his momentum was not sustained as Abdelnour rallied back to claim the next two sets, 7-5, 6-3, to eliminate Wolf.

Northwestern's duo was not done playing despite being bounced from the main singles draw. Graves and Wolf paired up side-by-side to partake in the main doubles draw. After cruising past a team from Green Bay in the opening round on Friday, the Wildcats continued their run of success against teams from the land of cheese by beating a pair of Wisconsin Badgers, Fredrik Ask and Alex Robles, 8-5, to advance to the next round.

Graves and Wolf moved on to the round of 16 where they went toe-to-toe with another familiar opponent, this time Michigan State's entry of Aaron Pfister and Austin Brooks. The Spartans topped Northwestern's top entry, 8-5.

Another pair of NU's finest were also in action in the main doubles draw in Ohio. Sophomore Raleigh Smith (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep) and Alexandru Pasareanu (Bluffton, S.C./Heritage Academy) took on another pair of Buckeyes, Nelson Vick and Hunter Callahan. For the second time on the day, Ohio State got the best of the Wildcats as Vick and Callhan bested Smith and Pasareanu, 8-4.

In the consolation bracket on Saturday, Pasareanu fell to Vick from OSU, 5-7, 7-5, 10-6. Smith (Northwestern) knocked off Vukasin Teofanovic from Marquette in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1 and Michael Fredericka (Notre Dame) defeated Tobias Reitz (Reinbeck, Germany/ Sachsenwaldschule Reinbeck) 7-6, 3-6, 10-4.
