EVANSTON, Ill. -- No. 11 seeded Northwestern will face the No. 6 seed Indiana in the opening round of the Big Ten Championship at noon Thursday, April 24. The Wildcats hope to put some magic together as they enter the tournament searching for their first, and most important, conference victory.

The Big Ten Championship is taking place at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex at the University of Iowa, April 24-27. The 'Cats need just four wins to take the title and an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

Last year, Northwestern advanced to the second-round of the tournament before a loss to Ohio State, 4-0, ended its season.

The 'Cats gave Indiana a tough run during the regular season, before falling, 5-2, in Bloomington. On April 6, Northwestern soundly took the doubles point from then-No. 39 Indiana, but struggled in bringing the momentum into singles play.

Freshman Peter Rispoli (Naples, Fla./St. Stephens (Texas)) showed flashes of brilliance in his straight set win at No. 4 singles over Lachlan Ferguson. Northwestern fought to the end, pushing two additional singles matches into three sets, but ultimately dropped the match, 5-2. The Wildcats own the all-time series with Indiana, 41-36.

With a win Thursday, Northwestern would move on to face No. 3 seeded Illinois in the second-round at 2 p.m. Friday, April 25. Illinois has a first-round bye. The Wildcats fell to the Fighting Illini, 7-0, during the regular season. For additional tournament information, including schedules and results, please visit the Big Ten Championship website.
