On the heels of convincing wins over No. 34 Louisville and Chicago State on Sunday, No. 41 Northwestern travels to South Bend on Tuesday to take on No. 30 Notre Dame at Eck Tennis Pavilion.
The Wildcats opened Sunday's doubleheader with a hard-fought 4-1 win over Louisville before the final two singles matches were abandoned. NU got wins at No. 2 and No. 3 to win the doubles point before the 'Cats got singles wins at No. 1 from Spencer Wolf, No. 3 from Sidarth Balaji and No. 5 from Chris Jackman to clinch the victory.
In the nightcap, Northwestern rolled past Chicago State by a score of 6-0 as only singles matches were played. The Wildcats dropped a total of just 11 games in the six matches.
Meanwhile, Notre Dame posted 7-0 wins over Marquette and Western Illinois to opens is duel season last Saturday. Notre Dame went 21-9 last season and made it to the second round of the NCAA tournament.
The Fighting Irish lead the all-time series with the Wildcats by a 44-36-1 margin, including winning 5-2 last season in Evanston.
Following Tuesday's match, Northwestern will travel to Durham, N.C., to participate in the opening two rounds of the ITA Indoor Team Championships. The Wildcats take on Virginia Tech in Friday's opening round while Duke and Middle Tennessee State square off in the other match. The winners and losers of Friday's matches will face off on Saturday.
