    EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern men's tennis team hosts a pair of opponents at Combe Tennis Center for the second-consecutive Sunday as the 'Cats welcome Louisville and Chicago State.

    The Louisville match is slated for a 1 p.m. start, while the match against Chicago State gets underway at 7:30 p.m.

    NU opened up the spring dual season with a pair of convincing wins over Ball State and Western Michigan last Sunday.

    After clinching the doubles point against Ball State, NU took all six opening sets in singles and closed out the rest of their victories in straight sets for a 6-1 final. The 'Cats kept their momentum into the evening, clinching the match at 4-0 before ultimately posting a 5-2 win.

    Raleigh Smith, Sidarth Balaji and Alex Pasareanu each posted a pair of singles and doubles wins on the day. Smith and Balaji paired up with one another while Pasareanu teamed with Chris Jackman vs. Ball State and Mihir Kumar vs. Western Michigan.

    Smith is ranked No. 108 in the ITA rankings, while Northwestern is No. 41 as a team.

    Louisville comes into the match at No. 34 in the ITA team rankings. Sebastian Stiefelmeyer is the Cardinals' highest ranked player in singles at No. 82. Louisville opened its season with a 6-1 win over Nebraska last Sunday before defeating Morehead State and Murray State each by a 7-0 score on Friday. The Cardinals were 18-10 in duel meet action last season and fell to Indiana, 4-2, in the opening round of the NCAA tournament. Rex Ecarma is in his 23rd season as head coach.

     

     

    Chicago State opened its duel meet season on Saturday as it took on UIC. The Cougars also faced Western Illinois on Sunday morning. Chicago State was winless in 26 duel meets a year ago. The Cougars' roster features one freshman, five sophomores and one senior. Jack Barton is in his fourth season as head coach.
