Men's Tennis Falls in Semifinals to Minnesota at NCAA Region IV Championships
NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- The Northwestern men's tennis team, seeded second and ranked No. 31 nationally, fell to sixth-seeded Minnesota, 4-2, in the semifinals of the NCAA Region IV Championship. With the loss, the 'Cats end their season with an 18-6 overall record. Minnesota now plays top-seeded Duke in the championship match on Sunday.
NU lost the doubles point to start the match, falling at the No. 1 and 3 doubles spots. The 'Cats won the No. 2 and No. 3 singles points. Junior Doug Bohaboy, playing at No. 2, defeated Jon Svensson, 7-5, 6-1. At No. 3 singles, senior Ry Tarpley defeated Martin Michalowski, 6-3, 6-3.
Junior Marc Silva and senior Alex Witt will continue competition when they compete in the NCAA Singles Championship in Athens, Ga., on May 26.
