No. 24 Men's Tennis Falls To Unranked Minnesota
Wildcats drop four of six singles matches.
EVANSTON, Ill. - The Wildcat men's tennis team, ranked No. 24 nationally, fell to unranked Minnesota, 4-3 at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center. The Gophers took four of six singles matches, all but one of them coming in three set matches.
Playing at No. 1 singles, Marc Silva, ranked No. 23 nationally, was upset by Tom Chicoine 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. Alex Witt, ranked No. 18 nationally, cruised to an easy first set before, narrowly winning the second set and the match 6-2, 7-6 (5).
The Wildcats took the doubles point with Silva teaming with Ry Tarpley to defeat Tyson Parry and Jorge Duenas 8-5. Martin Bengtsson and Derrick Nguyen defeated Adam Selkirk and Martin Kristoffersen 8-5.
The only other Wildcat to win a singles match was No. 3 Doug Bohaboy, who overcame a slow start to defeat Martin Michalowski, 1-6, 6-3, 6-2.
