No. 21 Men's Tennis Defeats Georgia Tech, 6-1
'Cats pick up second win of the weekend.
ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Northwestern men's tennis team, ranked No. 21 nationally, defeated Georgia Tech, 6-2 at the Bill Moore Tennis Center. With the win, the 'Cats improve to 5-1 overall. NU defeated No. 20 Alabama (5-2) on Saturday.
NU swept the singles flights, winning all but one in straight sets. Junior Marc Silva, playing his second-straight match at No. 1 singles, defeated Benjamin Cassaigne, 6-4, 7-5. At No. 2 singles, senior Alex Witt downed Matt Cozad, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4.
The 'Cats won one of the three doubles matches. NU's no. 1 doubles team of Witt and sophomore Martin Bengtsson, who are ranked No. 31 nationally, defeated Cassaigne and Tim Bibby, 8-6.
NU continues action this week as it travels to Purdue (Feb. 28) and Ball State (March 1).
