No. 21 Northwestern Defeats No. 23 Notre Dame, 5-2
'Cats Post Third-Consecutive Dual Match Victory
EVANSTON, Ill. -- The Northwestern men's tennis team, ranked No. 21 nationally, defeated No. 23 Notre Dame, 5-2, today at the Johnson Tennis Center. The 'Cats swept four of six singles matches and two doubles matches en route to the victory.
At No. 1 singles, senior Alex Witt, ranked No. 15 nationally, soundly defeated No. 16 Ryan Sachire 6-4, 6-4. The 1998 Big Ten Singles champion Marc Silva downed Jakub Pietrowski, 7-6, 6-3, at No. 2 singles. NU junior Doug Bohaboy (No. 3) and senior Ry Tarpley (No. 5) won their respective singles matches.
Northwestern's No. 1 doubles team of Witt and sophomore Martin Bengtsson, ranked No. 31 nationally, upset fifth-ranked Pietrowski and Brian Patterson, 9-8 (6).
The 'Cats travel to No. 15 Illinois on Feb. 8 at 1 p.m.
