ITA Singles Draw (PDF)
EAST LANSING, Mich. -
Senior Chris Jackman advanced to the round of 16 of the singles draw at the ITA Midwest Regionals hosted by Michigan State University on Saturday.
Jackman, who opened the draw with a tough 3-6, 7-6, 6-1 win over Spencer Newman of Michigan, posted another three-set win on Saturday, defeating Denis Bogatov of Michigan State 6-4, 1-6, 6-1.
All four other Wildcats in the draw posted victories in the opening-round matches. Tenth-seeded Spencer Wolf started with a tough 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (5) win over Logan Collins of Marquette before falling in another tight match to Brian Page of Illinois 7-6 (7), 0-6, 7-5.
Mihir Kumar started his tournament with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 win over Alex Buzzi of Michigan before being defeated by Tim Kopinski of Illinois 6-4, 6-1. Raleigh Smith was a 6-4, 6-3 winner over Tomas Stillman of Toledo before falling to Stephen Ho of Illinois 7-5, 6-1. Alex Pasareanu worked hard to pick up a 7-6, 4-6, 6-4 opening-round win over Dan Mamalat of Marquette before bowing to top-seeded Evan King of Michigan 7-5, 6-1.
In the qualifying round, Fedor Baev came up just shy of advancing to the main draw. He posted a 6-0, 6-3 win over Michigan State's Paul Heeder before knocking off Doug Zade of MSU 6-4, 6-2. However, he dropped a 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 decision to Cam Tehrani of Marquette for the opportunity to move on to the main draw.
