    ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Northwestern notched four victories in singles and doubles in day two of the 2009 ITA Midwest Regional Championships hosted by Michigan. Three 'Cats won their consolation singles matches while Alex Sanborn (Houston, Texas/Kinkaid) and Tobias Reitz (Reinbeck, Germany/Sachsenwaldschule Reinbeck) advanced to the round of 16 in doubles.

    Sanborn and Reitz defeated Toledo's Nutthavit Likitkumchorn and Leo Sarria in a tight afternoon match. The teams were even at 6-all when the 'Cats broke for a 7-6 advantage. Serving for the match, Sanborn and Reitz fought back from a 0-30 hole to secure a spot in the round of 16.

    Earlier in the day, three Wildcats notched victories in consolation singles action. Sanborn defeated DePaul's Matija Palinic in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. Reitz defeated Toledo's Sven Burus 7-6(0), 6-4.

    Freshman Spencer Wolf (Coral Springs, Fla./Laurel Springs) posted a 6-4, 7-6(4) victory over Ryan Hamning of Cleveland State. Mark Schanerman (North Miami Beach, Fla./Dr. Michael M. Krop HS) dropped a close match in a third set superbreaker to Timon Reichelt of Illinois State.
