EVANSTON, Ill. -- The weekend ended in winning fashion as No. 30 Northwestern took down Western Illinois 7-0 Sunday night. The `Cats move to 7-2 on the season and are 5-0 at home.
The `Cats dominated doubles competition to take an early 1-0 lead. Freshman Strong Kirchheimer and sophomore Fedor Baev beat Max Cederkall and Brandon Meeker 6-1 at No. 2, and juniors Alex Pasareanu and Alberto Zanotti defeated Brett Furmanski and Chris Bunch 6-0 at No. 3.
Northwestern took the momentum into singles play and won matches at No. 4, 5, and 6 to seal the victory. Pasareanu did not drop a game in his 6-0, 6-0 match-clinching win at No. 6. The `Cats finished out each contest to win by a final of 7-0.
Monday marks a day of rest before the Wildcats return to action on Tuesday, when they host No. 16 Notre Dame at 5 p.m.
