EVANSTON, ILL. -- The Northwestern men return to the pool when it takes five of its members to compete in the USA Swimming AT&T Winter National Championships hosted by the University of Texas in Austin.

Competition begins 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, with preliminary heats before 5 p.m. CT finals that night. That schedule continues through Saturday. For more information on the meet, visit USASwimming.org.

Out of all of its members who met time standards, the `Cats will be sending five swimmers to compete for Northwestern at the national event. Senior Charlie Rimkus (Tustin, Calif./Beckman) will lead the `Cats this weekend with his previous experience at the AT&T Nationals. Senior Varun Shivakumar (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Fremd), junior Chase Stephens (Madison, Wis./Edgewood), senior Alexander Ratajczyk (Parlin, N.J./Sayreville War Memorial) and freshman Jordan Wilimovsky (Malibu, Calif./Malibu) will join Rimkus. who was named the Big Ten Swimmer of the Week after his performance at NU's TYR Invitational two weeks ago.

At least year's AT&T Nationals, Rimkus swam an Olympic Trial qualification time of 4:30.05 in the 400 IM to qualify for a second swim and ended up 18th overall in the event. Rimkus showed he is in great early form with a pair of NCAA `B' qualification times in the 200 fly and 400 IM earned at the TYR Invitational.

Wilimovsky will look to make his mark this weekend in the mile after crushing the Norris Center pool record with a time of 15:10.75 two weeks ago. Wilimovsky's victorious swim is the second-fastest mile ever swum by a Wildcat and puts him in prime position to contend for an NCAA berth with a good swim in Austin.
