EVANSTON, Ill. -- After opening the season with a pair of road meets, Northwestern kicks off its home schedule this weekend with back-to-back competitions at the Norris Aquatics Center.

NU first welcomes conference foe Wisconsin at 5 p.m. CT Friday, Nov. 11, before UIC and North Dakota come to town for an 11 a.m. CT double-dual Saturday, Nov. 12. Both meets will be combined men's and women's competitions. This weekend marks the first two of three-straight home meets; Northwestern will host its traditional TYR Invitational Nov. 18-20 to close out the fall quarter schedule.

In last season's meeting with the Badgers, the Wildcats earned head coach Jarod Schroeder's first-career Big Ten victory. Schroeder, who took over NU prior to the 2009-10 campaign following the retirement of 20-year veteran Bob Groseth, led Northwestern to a strong 165-128 victory in Madison. In Schroeder's first year, the Wildcats fell less than 10 points short of a conference win on three different occasions, including a 153-144 decision against the Badgers.

After two meets this year, several Wildcats -- both young and old -- are emerging as leaders in the pool. Senior John Frutiger (Alma, Mich./Alma) has been NU's best in the 200-yard freestyle and individual medley while classmate Jake Grosser (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles) has NU's best 100 fly time and ranks just .01 of a second shy of the team's best 50 free mark behind heralded freshman sprinter Matthew Margritier (Leawood, Kan./Rockhurst), who has been the 'Cats best in both the 50 and 100 free races.

Freshman breaststroker Uula Auren (Helsinki, Finland/Mäkelänrinteen Lukio) has impressed with his early returns in that stroke while junior Varun Shivakumar (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Fremd) is shaking off the effects of a minor early-season injury to reclaim his position as NU's best distance backstroke man.

Junior Charlie Rimkus (Tustin, Calif./Beckman), an NCAA qualifier last year in the distance events, is right back where he needs to be atop the NU top times list in the 500 free, 1,000 free, 200 breast and 200 fly. Another Wildcat with the ability to excel in two different events is Dominik Cubelic (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South), who is NU's best in the 100 back while having the potential to explode at any time in the sprint freestyle races.

Northwestern will be testing a brand new live results system this weekend with the goal of providing live times from the Norris Aquatics Center for meets in the future. Once functional, the link will appear on the NU schedule page and master schedule at the bottom of the NUsports.com home page.
