EVANSTON, Ill. – The Northwestern men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams return to the pool this weekend with a pair of road dual meets.
On Friday at 3:00 p.m. CT, the Wildcats will be in West Lafayette, Ind. to face Big Ten rivals Purdue and Ohio State.
The Iowa men’s program will also compete in the event at West Lafayette. However, the Hawkeyes and Wildcats will not go head-to-head. Iowa comes to Evanston on January 25 to face Northwestern one-on-one.
On Saturday, NU heads to Chicago’s West Side as UIC hosts the ‘Cats and Wyoming at 1:00 p.m. CT.
In Northwestern’s previous meet against Western Kentucky, the men’s team set two individual pool records at Bowling Green, Ky.’s Bill Powell Natatorium. Chase Stephens
swam a 20.59 in the 50 yard freestyle, a pool record.
Diver Andrew Cramer also set the WKU record on in 3-meter diving, scoring a 355.70. Stephens won three individual events and sophomore Jordan Wilimovsky won two. The ‘Cats defeated the Hilltoppers 161-139 to move to 2-0 on the season.
The 3-0 Wildcats women’s swimming and diving team defeated Western Kentucky 155-145. Freshman Lauren Abruzzo won two individual events against the Hilltoppers, including a pool record 10:00.04 time in the 1,000 yard freestyle. Fellow freshman Lacey Locke registered three individual wins against WKU.
The Boilermakers women’s team is undefeated this season. Purdue began the season with a 177-116 win over Miami (Ohio) on Oct. 18 and finished in first place out of seven teams at the Indiana Intercollegiates on Oct. 26. Purdue is most recently coming off a 155.5-144.5 home win over Notre Dame on Nov. 1.
Purdue’s men’s swimming team finished in first place in the Indiana Intercollegiates as well and defeated Notre Dame 208-92.
For the Ohio State Buckeyes, both the men’s and women’s programs are 5-0 on the year. UIC’S men’s team has gone 2-2 and the women are 2-1.
