EVANSTON, Ill. -- Incoming Northwestern freshman Jordan Wilimovsky is entering his collegiate swimming career with a full head of steam, first establishing a meet record at the 2012 Speedo Junior National Championships on August 13 before medaling twice at the World Junior Open Water Swimming Championships on August 17.

The future distance freestyle specialist Wildcat won the 1,500-meter freestyle last Monday at the USA Swimming Junior National meet in Indianapolis with a meet record time of 15:23.01, topping his nearest competitor by 5.49 seconds. He split steady low 31s for the first 500 meters before dropping to mid 30-second 50-meter splits for the remainder of his record-breaking race.

Wilimovsky then jumped out of the pool and into the Niagara River at the Welland International Flatwater Centre and Recreational Waterway in Ontario, Canada, for the inaugural FINA Junior Open Water World Championships, where he figured in both of the United States' medals at the meet. Wilimovsky captured the lone American individual medal with a second-place finish in the 17-18 Boys 7.5K race with a time of 1:25.19, just 20 seconds behind the German winner. He also won a bronze medal with the 17-18 Co-Ed Team Event 3K race, coming in just four seconds behind the silver medalists from Russia.
