EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern head coach Jarod Schroeder announced today the hiring of Andrew Sheaff as an assistant coach with the men's swimming and diving program.

Sheaff and Schroeder previously worked together at the University of Maryland in 2007-08 when Schroeder was serving as interim head coach and Sheaff was in the first of two years as a volunteer assistant with the program.

"During the year we worked together, Andrew really impressed me with his passion for the sport," Schroeder said. "He has an eye for technique and really takes an interest in each student-athlete's development. He has a master's degree in Exercise Physiology, which is an added bonus, and we'll use his input in developing our strength and dryland training programs. I am excited about the prospect of change with the skills Andrew brings to Northwestern."

After earning his exercise physiology Master's from Maryland in 2009, Sheaff left to become an assistant coach at Bucknell, adding assistant coaching duties with the Bison Aquatic Club in Lewisburg, Pa., in the summer of 2010. Sheaff is a 2007 graduate of Pittsburgh University with a degree in exercise science. He has an extensive background in sports performance, interning with the Pitt football team in the spring of 2007 and with the NFL's Cleveland Browns in the summer of 2007.

Sheaff was a four-year letterwinner with Pitt's swimming and diving squad, earning the Senior Athlete of Distinction honor. In addition to his expertise in the physical side of the sport, Sheaff also is highly intelligent. Out of the pool, he was a four-time BIG EAST Academic All-Star, University Scholar-Athlete and member of the 4.0 Club.
