EVANSTON, Ill. - Both the Northwestern men's and women's swimming and diving programs have been named 2014 CSCAA Scholar All-America Team award winners.

Selected by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA), Northwestern was named a team Team Scholar All-American. The award is presented to teams who have achieved a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

The award is presented twice annually, once in the fall semester and again in the spring to recognize teams achieving a 3.0 in the semester or quarter coinciding with the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.

Jarod Schroeder's `Cats earned a 3.30 team GPA on the men's side during the championships segment to rank 16th in the nation and second in the Big Ten. The women led by Jimmy Tierney posted a 3.37 team GPA.

In addition, the CSCAA has released its individual Scholar All-America awards with four NU men and two NU women picking up the honor. The Scholar All-America award is presented to college and university swimmers and divers who have achieved a cumulative, or term, grade point average of 3.5 or higher for the academic term coinciding with their respective Swimming and Diving Championships and have qualified for and competed at the Championship. Honorable mention accolades go to those who do not advance to the NCAA Championships, but do achieve the GPA benchmark while also earning at least one NCAA 'B' qualifying standard during the season.

On the men's side, Charlie Cole, Dominik Cubelic, Van Donkersgoed and Chase Stephens were named honorable mention Scholar All-Americans. For the women, freshman Lauren Abruzzo won first-team Scholar All-America recognition while Becca Soderholm was tabbed an honorable mention awardee.
