EVANSTON, Ill. -- Former Big Ten Champion and NCAA All-American Richard Abrahams, a 1966 Northwestern graduate, is a member of the 2011 class of inductees to the International Masters Swimming Hall of Fame, the IMSHOF announced in its July newsletter.

The seven member class -- comprised of four swimmers, two divers and one contributor representing four different countries -- will be inducted at the organization's annual ceremony on Friday, Sept. 16, at the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront in Jacksonville, Fla., in conjunction with the United States Aquatic Sports Convention.

Abrahams has set 37 FINA Masters World Records and won 10 gold medals in three FINA World Masters Championships since 1986. During his Northwestern career from 1964-66, Abrahams won the 1964 Big Ten title in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.6, which was then the fourth-fastest time in the world. He went on to earn NCAA All-America honors in the 50 free with a sixth-place finish in the event. In 1966, Abrahams added a second Big Ten title with a win in the 100-yard freestyle.

Abrahams was awarded the 1966 N Club Achievement Award (then known as the N Men's Club) and the Big Ten medal for excellence in athletics and scholarship. He graduated as the school's record holder in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events.
