EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern men’s swimming head coach Jarod Schroeder and his team are beginning a community initiative to support Brain Tumor Awareness Month in May.

The Wildcats decorated and colored brain swim caps at practice and look to grow their work with the campaign in upcoming month and season.

“I want our guys to appreciate the gifts that they have and the position they’re in at a great place like Northwestern,” Schroeder said. “A lot of times, you have to get yourself out in the community to really appreciate what you have here. We try to do a community service project every quarter. This was one where they approached us to see if we were interested in supporting this cause and it’s an incredibly worthwhile cause.”

The ‘Cats are working with the Northwestern Brain Tumor Institute (NBTI) at Northwestern Memorial Hospital for the efforts.

The Northwestern University men’s swim team showed their support for the Northwestern Brain Tumor Institute – a nationally recognized leader in the fight against brain and spinal cord tumors. The NBTI calls upon the world-class resources of the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University, a National Cancer Institute (NCI) - designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, the research and medical expertise of the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation, and the preeminent healthcare facilities of Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Visit www.braintumorinstitute.org during the month of May for more photos, videos and information about the institute’s ability to offer patients the most advanced clinical trial and treatment options available.
