Swimming and Diving Teams Post Wins
Meet Results
CHICAGO, Ill.--The Northwestern men's and women's swimming and diving
teams hosted a double-dual meet with Michigan State and Purdue on Saturday and
came away winners. The women's team knocked off both Purdue, 175-123, and
Michigan State, 184-115, to go 3-0 on the weekend, all in the Big Ten. NU now
stands at 5-5, 3-2 in the Big Ten. The men's team fell to #22 Purdue by a
173.5-123.5 count, but rebounded to knock off Michigan State 165-134.
Dominique Diezi paced the women with three wins. She took the 50 free in 23.87,
the 100 free in 51.30 and the 100 back in 57.08. Joy Stover was a double winner,
taking the 500 (4:54.94) and 1000 free (9:58.27). Other winners for NU were Amy
Balcerzak in the 100 breast (1:03.54) and Cathy Lundin in the 200 IM (2:08.27).
NU also won the 200 medley and free relays.
The men's team had four individual winners. Noah Eckert won both the 1 and 3
meter diving events with scores of 261.05 and 261.65 respectively. Brian Walters
took the 100 back in 50.53, Steve Steketee won the 100 free in 45.23 and Bill
Johnson won the 200 back in 1:50.64.
The women's team is back in action when they travel to DeKalb, Ill. on Feb. 6 to
take on Northern Illinois and Illinois-Chicago in a double-dual meet. The men
wrap up the 1998 home schedule with a triple-dual next Fri.-Sat., Jan. 30-31,
against Iowa, Penn St. and Ohio St. at the Norris Aquatics Center.
