Wildcats remain in ninth place entering Saturday's final day of action
Toni Valcic began his collegiate swimming career in 2009-10 at NCAA Division II University of Bridgeport, where he won 10 All-America honors and two Division II national titles in two seasons of competition. He transferred to Northwestern with junior eligibility prior to the 2011-12 season.
2012-13: Member of Northwestern's sprint freestyle group ... CSCAA Scholar All-America honorable mention ... Academic All-Big Ten ... Ranked third on NU's top times list in the 50 free and swam with the Wildcats' top 200 free relay of the year ... Qualified for the bonus final of the 50 free at the Big Ten Championships with a career-best and NCAA `B' consideration time of 20.19 before placing 22nd overall in the conference with a 20.54 in the evening ... Also competed in the 100 free (54th) at the Big Ten meet ... A sprint specialist, qualified for the championship finals of the 50 free, 50 breast and 50 fly at Northwestern's own four-team TYR Invitational (11/16-11/18) ... Took third overall in the 50 breast and fourth in the 50 fly and 50 free ... Also scored points at the TYR with 16th-place overall finishes in the 100 free and 100 breast ... Scored dual-meet points with seven top-five finishes in the 50 free, including a win at Iowa (1/26) with a season-best 20.67 and second-place efforts against Eastern Michigan (10/19), UIC and Western Kentucky (11/2), Wisconsin (11/8) and Milwaukee (1/16).
2011-12: In his first season of NCAA Division I competition, was Northwestern's top swimmer in the 50 free while ranking fourth on the team in the 100 breast ... CSCAA Scholar All-America honorable mention ... Qualified for the bonus final of the 50 free at the Big Ten Championships with a career-best and NCAA `B' provisional qualifying time of 20.23 in the prelims ... Placed 20th overall following a 20.37 in the finals ... Competed in the 100 breast (32nd) and 100 free (51st) at the conference meet, as well ... Also swam with the Wildcats' top 200 free and 200 medley relays, earning NCAA `B' times in both at the Big Ten Championships ... The 200 medley relay ranks fourth and the 200 free relay fifth on NU's all-time top times list for those events ... Earned a pool record at Lewis with the 200 free relay during a double dual against Lewis and Carthage College (1/7) ... Won the 50 free in a dual meet against Wisconsin (11/11) and the 100 free versus Lewis and Carthage (1/7) ... Had five total top-three dual meet finishes on the year ... Made the championship final in two events at the TYR Invite, taking fifth in the 50 breast and eighth in the 100 free ... Won the 50 free consolation final at the TYR while placing 12th overall after the consolation heat of the 50 fly.
2010-11 (University of Bridgeport): Earned six total All-America honors in 2011, leading Bridgeport to a sixth-place national finish ... Won two 2011 NCAA Division II national championships, one with the 200 free relay and another with the 200 medley relay ... Swam the leadoff leg of the 200 free relay, recording a 20.30 split to contribute to his team's time of 1:19.65 ... Swam a 22.00 50 fly split to help his team to a title time of 1:28.25 in the 200 medley relay ... Also finished fourth with the 400 free relay and 14th with the 400 medley relay ... Earned two individual All-America honors, picking up a first-team nod with a third-place finish in the 50 free (20.14) while also winning an honorable mention award after a 16th-place effort in the 100 free (45.86).
2009-10 (University of Bridgeport): Named Bridgeport's Student-Athlete of the Year ... Won four honorable mention All-America awards at the NCAA Championships, beginning with an individual 11th-place finish in the 50 free (20.64) ... Took 10th with the 200 free relay, 11th with the 200 medley relay and 16th with the 400 medley relay at the NCAA meet ... Also competed in the 100 free at the NCAA Championships, placing 39th overall ... Bridgeport finished 17th in the country in the team standings.
High School: Swam competitively with the Olimpija Ljubljana club team in his native Slovenia ... Won the 2010 and 2011 50-meter freestyle Slovenia national titles ... Earned national silvers in the 50-meter butterfly and with the 4x100 medley and 4x100 free relays.
