    1997-98 Men's Swimming Outlook

The 1997-98 Northwestern Men's Swimming and Diving Team will faces an uphill climb as it looks to build upon one of the best seasons in school history, but the slope isn't as steep as it looks. Gone are seniors Rob Rausch and Scott Smale, both All-Americans in 1996-97. Also gone is Shae McCowen, a member of two school-record-breaking relays teams. The 'Cats do return five other swimmers from a team that posted its best finish at the Big Ten Championships in 22 years. Seniors Steve Vongluekiat and Josh Carothers, junior Brian Walters and sophomores Steve and Jeff Harms helped set 10 school records at the Big Tens. NU has also signed two high school All-Americans to help bolster the squad. Freshman Todd Capen was a 1996 Senior National qualifier and freshman Steve Steketee placed second in the 200 free at the 1996 spring Junior Nationals.
