EVANSTON, Ill.-Following a four goal performance in two games in the NIU Tournament, Northwestern sophomore forward Joey Calistri has been named the National Player of the Week by College Soccer News.

For the second week in a row, Calistri was also named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week and made the College Soccer News National Team of the Week.

Calistri has scored six goals during the 2013 season, which is tied with Loyola Maryland's Larry Ndjock for fourth most in the nation.

Calistri also leads the Big Ten in points (13) and goals (6).

"Like I always say about Joey Calistri, he answers every challenge with more work," Northwestern head coach Tim Lenahan said. "When he didn't score in his first four games, including exhibitions, he just kept putting the time in after practice.   He knows that if he works, he scores. And, luckily for us, he loves to work."

Calistri scored three goals in the `Cats 4-0 victory over Green Bay on Friday, Sep. 13. It marked the fourth hat trick in Northwestern school history and the first since Matt Eliason tallied three goals against Eastern Illinois on Sep. 12, 2008.

He added another goal against Butler on Sunday, Sep. 15 in NU's 2-0 win. Calistri was credited with the game-winning goals in both games as Northwestern won the NIU Tournament title and Calistri was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.

The sophomore from Deerfield, Ill. has now scored six goals Northwestern's last three games, tallying both goals in the `Cats 2-0 win over Xavier on Sep. 7. He's the first player to score at least one goal in three consecutive games since Oliver Kupe in 2010, who scored a goal in four straight games (five total goals) from Oct. 20, 2010 at Loyola to Nov. 6, 2010 vs. Michigan.

He now has 15 career goals at Northwestern.

The Wildcats improved their season record to 4-1-0, winning four consecutive games while outscoring their opponents 9-0 during the stretch.
