NIU Tournament Game Notes
Northwestern travels to DeKalb, Ill. for the NIU Tournament coming off back-to-back shutout victories. The Wildcats face a pair of undefeated opponents, going against Green Bay (3-0-1) Friday, Sep. 13 and Butler (3-0-1) on Sunday, Sep. 15. The Bulldogs received votes in this week’s NSCAA National Poll and are ranked No. 9 in the country by Soccer America after defeating Louisville, 1-0 on Sep. 7.
Since the 2005 season, the Wildcats have played a pair of games in DeKalb, Ill., every season for the NIU Tournament, compiling a 14-2 record in those contests. In the 2012 tournament, NU defeated Drake 2-1 (OT) and Rhode Island 3-2.
Wildcats Take Home B1G Honors
With their performances in NU’s 2-0 win over Xavier the Big Ten Conference named sophomore forward Joey Calistri Co-Offensive Player of the Week after his two-goal performance in NU’s win at Xavier and junior goalkeeper Tyler Miller received Defensive Player of the Week honors after his shutout performance.
NU Earns Spot in National Polls
Northwestern took the 24th spot in the NSCAA National Poll this week. In the College Soccer News Top 30 Poll, the Wildcats rank No. 21.
Calistri Scores Fastest Goal for NU Since 2004
Sophomore forward Joey Calistri found the back of the net 60 seconds into Northwestern’s match against Xavier on Sep. 7 after taking a pass from junior midfielder Grant Wilson. It marked the ‘Cats fastest goal to start a match since Gerardo Alverez tallied a goal against Oral Roberts 0:47 in the match on Sep. 24, 2004.

Calistri added a second goal in the game’s 23rd minute. It marked his second career multi-goal game. He also scored a pair of goals against Rhode Island on Sep. 9. 2012.
He became the first Northwestern player to tally multiple games with at least two goals since Oliver Kupe, who registered three in his career. (Sep. 25, 2008 at Notre Dame; Sep. 10, 2010 vs. Cleveland State; Nov. 6, 2010 vs. Michigan).
Northwestern’s 2-0 win against Xavier on Sep. 7 marked junior goalkeeper Tyler Miller’s 21th career shutout. The 21 shutouts rank second in school history, behind Misha Rosenthal, who recorded 29 shutouts from 2005-09.
