EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern junior forward Gerardo Alvarez (Aurora, Ill./Marmion Academy) has been named to the 2005 Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy watch list, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) has announced.

Alvarez, who is on pace to break Northwestern's career goals, assists and points records in just his third season, is one of 25 players on the NSCAA watch list, which was compiled by a panel of coaches from the NSCAA.

Alvarez led the Wildcats in goals (9), assists (7) and points (25) during the 2003 campaign, his freshman season. His sophomore year was just as productive as he led the Wildcats and the Big Ten Conference in scoring with 12 goals.

Alvarez is the first player from the Northwestern men's soccer program to be nominated to the Hermann Trophy watch list.

A list of 15 semifinalists for the award will be announced in early November, with the three finalists announced in December. The trio will be invited to St. Louis for a news conference and dinner held at the Missouri Athletic Club on Jan. 6, 2006, where the winner of the award will be revealed. The winner is determined through voting of NCAA Division I members of the NSCAA.

The release can be found at the NSCAA: Web site.
