POMONA, N.J. --The Northwestern Wildcats wrapped up their 2014 preseason tour in New Jersey with a scoreless draw against St. John's at Richard Stockton College on Friday night. The 'Cats limited the Red Storm, an NCAA Tournament team in five of the last six seasons, to just one shot on goal over 90 minutes and open the regular-season next Friday, Aug. 29, at Lakeside Field.
Northwestern netminder Tyler Miller, who was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List earlier this month for the second consecutive season, turned aside the only shot his defenders surrendered in the game. Miller enters the 2014 campaign ranked second all-time in Northwestern men's soccer history with 27 shutouts, and eighth on the program's all-time list in saves.
19 different Wildcats saw action in the game, as Tim Lenahan's side navigated their final exhibition tune-up, one of three the club played in New Jersey over the last week.
Chicago's Big Ten Team kicks off the 2014 regular-season at Lakeside Field on Friday, Aug. 29, at 7 p.m. when they host Quinnipiac in the Sheraton Chicago-Northbrook Lakeside Classic.
Season tickets are now on sale by calling the Northwestern ticket office at 1-888-GO-PURPLE and NUSports.com. Men's soccer season ticket holders will once again receive a limited edition Northwestern Soccer scarf and an invitation to an exclusive event. In search of a fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament berth, the Wildcats have an exciting home schedule that also includes visits from the 2014 NCAA runners-up, Maryland, on Oct. 5 and the 2013 Big Ten champions, Penn State, on Nov. 2.
