EVANSTON, Ill. – The Northwestern men’s soccer team kicks off the 2013 season with its first practice when the clock strikes midnight on Aug. 14.

The back-to-back Big Ten champions host Midnight Madness at 12:01 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 14 at Lakeside Field. The ‘Cats invite fans to join the team with the open practice.

NU has taken advantage of the opportunity to get things started at the very first possible minute for a number of years under head coach Tim Lenahan. Here's a rundown of the squad's scheduled activities for the evening:

12:01-12:30 a.m. - Team warmup and activities (including PK contest)
12:30-12:45 a.m. - PK contest for Northwestern fans (winners of the contest take home a Northwestern mini soccer ball provided by NU Men's Soccer)
12:45-1 a.m. - Poster signing session with the 2013 NU Wildcat Soccer team

The Wildcats return eight starters and 16 letterwinners from their 2012 Big Ten championship program. The list includes First Team All-Big Ten selections senior midfielder Chris Ritter, junior goalkeeper Tyler Miller, junior defender Nikko Boxall and sophomore forward Joey Calistri. Ritter was the 2012 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year while Calistri was also named Big Ten Freshman of the Year and joined sophomore midfielder Cole Missimo on the All-Freshman Team. Six incoming freshman also join head coach Tim Lenahan’s squad for 2013.

Northwestern hosts Oakland in an exhibition match on Tuesday, Aug. 20 at 7 p.m. and opens the regular season facing UC Santa Barbara at Lakeside Field on Friday, Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. Single-game and season tickets for the 10 home matches at Lakeside Field are now available for purchase online or by calling 888-GO-PURPLE.
