2014 MAC Hermann Award Watch List
EVANSTON, Ill.-- Northwestern senior goalkeeper Tyler Miller (Woodbury, N.J./Bishop Eustace) has been named to the 2014 Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy watch list, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) announced on Wednesday. This marks the netminder's second consecutive appearance on the list, and he is one of only two Big Ten student-athletes to be recognized..
The MAC Hermann Trophy is the most prestigious individual award in NCAA soccer, presented annually to one male and one female student-athlete. The winners will be announced Friday, Jan. 9, 2015, at the trophy presentation banquet at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.
"Tyler has shown himself to be one of the top goalkeepers, not only in the Big Ten, but in the nation, and he has caught the attention of a lot of professional scouts," said Northwestern head coach Tim Lenahan. "I expect him to have an exceptional senior year both on the field and as a leader."
A two-time First Team All-Big Ten honoree (2011, '12), Miller shared second in the Conference in 2013 with eight shutouts despite missing five games due to injury, and was twice named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week last season. He enters the 2014 campaign ranked second all-time in Northwestern men's soccer history with 27 shutouts, and eighth on the program's all-time list in saves.
Miller is the fifth Wildcat to be named to the MAC Hermann watch list in school history, joining Matt Eliason (2010), Mark Blades (2009), David Roth (2007) and Gerardo Alvarez (2005).
