DeKalb, Ill.-Sophomore forward Joey Calistri followed up his hat-trick performance with the game-winning goal against Butler in Northwestern's 2-0 win Sunday, helping the Wildcats capture the NIU Tournament Title.

Calistri scored in the game's 11th minute, which gave him four goals in two games during the tournament, earning him NIU Tournament Most Valuable Player honors.

He now has scored six goals in NU's last three games. Junior defender Nikko Boxall scored his first goal of the season at 30:58 as the ‘Cats improved to 4-1-0.

“A great win for us, great to be champions of the NIU tournament,” Northwestern head coach Tim Lenahan said. “I thought it was a really strong weekend for us, obviously with Joey Calistri with four goals being the highlight.

“Playing two games in three games, I thought our legs got a little heavy in the second half, especially with Butler pushing forward, but all-in-all you have to be happy. We scored six goals and didn’t give up any, get a day off on Tuesday and get ready for the Lakeside Classic next week with two really good teams.”

“We played very well to get the two goals,” Lenahan said. “Then in the second half, Butler really took it to us. They’re a very good team. They’re going to win a lot of games this year and we were just able to hold them off.”

NU has now won its last four games without allowing a goal. The ‘Cats have outscored opponents 9-0 over the stretch. Northwestern also improved to 16-2 in the NIU Tournament since 2005.

Boxall, junior goalkeeper Tyler Miller  and senior midfielder Lepe Seetane were also named to the All-Tournament Team.

Northwestern returns home to face Saint Mary ‘s on Friday, Sep. 20 at 5 p.m. and Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday, Sep. 22 at 2 p.m.
