    EVANSTON, Ill.-After two halves of close calls, Northwestern fell to West Coast powerhouse UC-Santa Barbara 3-1 Friday night at Lakeside Field.

    Northwestern attempted to strike early in the first half, but a header off the UCSB post could not be turned into a goal.

    All three points by the Gauchos appeared in the first 30 minutes of the game. With 8:15 left in the half, Northwestern responded with a goal by freshman forward Mike Roberge, assisted by freshman midfielder Brandon Medina.


     

     

    The Wildcats met the second half with much more controlled possession. Junior goalkeeper Tyler Miller stepped up to save a number of direct shots on goal by UCSB. Northwestern played with higher energy and offensive action in the later half. Other major players in the game included senior midfielder Lepe Seetane and sophomore midfielder Cole Missimo with three and four shots, respectively. 

    Northwestern put up 12 shots, five on goal and two corner kicks.

    Catch the Wildcats play at DePaul on Monday, September 2nd at 1:00 pm. Come show your support when the Wildcats return home on Friday, September 20th against St. Mary's.
