EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern concludes its fall season Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 4-5, at the Ninth Annual Gifford Collegiate Championship hosted by UCLA at Pelican Hill in Newport Beach, Calif.
The tournament will feature 36 holes of play Monday, Nov. 4, on the 6,985-yard, par-70 layout of the North Course at Pelican Hill before the final 18 holes on Tuesday. Play each day will begin with tee times at 9 a.m. CT/7 a.m. local time.
The Gifford's field is small at just 10 teams but is loaded with quality, featuring No. 1 Alabama, No. 14 UCLA, No. 18 Washington, No. 26 SMU, No. 28 USC, No. 37 Northwestern, No. 43 Tennessee and No. 49 Oregon all inside the top-50 in the current Golfstat.com rankings. Coastal Carolina (78th) and Lamar (107th) round out the field.
The tournament -- which is a staple on Northwestern's schedule - was in its previous eight years staged at CordeValle Country Club in San Martin, Calif., site of the PGA TOUR's Frys.com Open. This season marks the first playing at Pelican Hill; the two venues will alternate as hosts in subsequent years.
Northwestern has won two of its four fall tournaments this season, beginning with its own Windon Memorial Classic in September and continuing with a three-stroke triumph at Duke's Rod Myers Invitational last month. At that event, senior Jack Perry (Santa Barbara, Calif./Santa Barbara) and freshman Matt Fitzpatrick (Sheffield, England/Tapton) tied for medalist honors, giving Perry his third collegiate victory and Fitzpatrick his first.
