EVANSTON, Ill. -- With a bevy of new faces, Northwestern begins its 2011-12 season Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 12-13, at the 42nd annual Marshall Invitational at Guyan Golf and Country Club in Huntington, W. Va.

The two-day, 54-hole tournament features a field of 15. Squads will play 36 holes Monday with a 7:30 a.m. CT shotgun start before the final 18 holes Tuesday starting with a 7 a.m. CT shotgun. In addition to Northwestern, Cincinnati, Cleveland State, Eastern Kentucky, Kentucky, Louisville, Marshall, Ohio State, Ohio University, Richmond, Virginia Commonwealth, Western Kentucky, William & Mary, Wright State and Xavier make up the rest of the field.

Anchoring Northwestern's lineup to start the fall is senior Eric Chun (Ansung City, South Korea/International Christian School). Chun is a three-time GCAA PING All-Region selection with the ability to go low early and often. The 2009 Big Ten medalist, Chun has a career stroke average of 73.14 and finished 38th at last year's NCAA Championships.

Fellow senior Sam Chien (San Diego, Calif./Mt. Carmel) is in NU's lineup for the first event of 2011-12. Chien saw extensive action as a sophomore, firing a career-best 64 to win the 2009 Navy Fall Classic. He played in 11 stroke play rounds last season, carding an even-par 72 in the second round of the UNCG Bridgestone Collegiate to help NU to a fifth-place team finish.

Sophomore Jack Perry (Santa Barbara, Calif./Santa Barbara) hopes to continue his hot finish to his freshman campaign. After working his way into the Northwestern lineup midway through the season, he fired a 1-under 71 in the final round of the Big Ten Championships to help vault NU to a second-place team finish. He then opened the NCAA Colorado Regional with a 1-under 71 and finished up with a 2-under 70 to push the Wildcats into the NCAA National Championships.

The Wildcats have turned their roster over 50 percent from the squad that finished 22nd at the NCAA National Championships in June, and two of those four newcomers will see action right away at the Marshall Invitational.

Heralded rookie Bennett Lavin (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) gets the start in his first collegiate event. Lavin has advanced out of local qualifying for the U.S. Open in each of the past two years and finished third at the 2010 Illinois Open, where a final-round 66 put him one shot away from low amateur status.

Matthew Negri (El Cajon, Calif./Grossmont) also has won a starting position in his first collegiate event mere days after matriculating to Evanston. Negri is an accomplished CIF player who played his final five tournaments of the 2010 summer circuit with a stroke average of 70.6.
