Golf World Magazine Season Preview and Top 50 Players to Watch List
EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern senior Jack Perry (Santa Barbara, Calif./Santa Barbara) and freshman Matt Fitzpatrick (Sheffield, England/Tapton) have been named to Golf World Magazine's Top 50 Players to Watch list for the upcoming 2013-14 season.
Perry is coming off an All-America season in which he became the first Wildcat since Luke Donald in 2001 to win the Big Ten's Les Bolstad Award for having the lowest regular-season stroke average (71.61) of any conference competitor. Perry racked up nine top-20 finishes in 11 stroke play events including five top-10s and a pair of victories at the season-opening Inverness Intercollegiate and the regular-season-ending Northwestern Spring Invitational.
Fitzpatrick enters the college game as the reigning United States Amateur Champion, the reigning low amateur at The Open Championship and the top ranked amateur player in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. He will compete for the European side in the Walker Cup Sept. 7-8 in Southampton, N.Y., before reporting to campus shortly thereafter. He was chosen sixth overall on the Golf World Top College Players to Watch list before ever hitting a collegiate tee shot.
Northwestern begins the 2013-14 season Sept. 13-15 at the Fighting Illini Invitational at Olympia Fields Country Club before hosting its own Windon Memorial Classic Sept. 22-13 at Knollwood Country Club in Lake Forest, Ill.
