    2014 Florida Open Final Results

NAPLES, Fla. -- Incoming Northwestern freshman Charles Wang (Beijing, China/Sarasota Christian School) finished as the low amateur at the 2014 Florida Open Sunday after holding the overall first-round lead at the July 18-20 event hosted at The Bonita Bay Club.

Wang made 16 birdies over the 54 holes of the event to finish in 11th place overall at 4-under 212, sharing low-amateur honors with Keith Greene and Joe Alfieri.

The 17-year-old future Wildcat made five birdies in his first seven holes of the opening round, vaulting himself to the top of the leaderboard with an eventual 6-under 66 that was good for a two shot overnight lead entering day two. He then carded rounds of 76 and 70 to end the event with low-am status.

Wang's 11th place finish came out of an initial field of over 950 entrants who attempted to advance to the Championship at 16 qualifying sites across the state.

Wang is one of three new Wildcats who will matriculate to Northwestern in the fall. NU opens the 2014-15 season Sept. 21-22 at its own Windon Memorial Classic at Evanston Golf Club in Skokie, Ill.
