EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern senior Eric Chun (Ansung City, South Korea/International Christian School) and sophomore Jack Perry (Santa Barbara, Calif./Santa Barbara) have been named Division I PING All-Midwest Region, announced today by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
Chun now is a four-time PING All-Region choice while Perry earns his first such honor this season.
Chun led Northwestern with a 71.38 stroke average in 2011-12, the fifth-best single-season total in school history behind three Luke Donald campaigns and Jess Daley's 1999-2000 season. Chun finished first in two tournaments, the Rice Intercollegiate and the NYX Hoosier Invitational, while compiling a whopping eight top-10 efforts including five top-2 finishes in 11 stroke play events this year. Of his 34 total rounds, 20 were at par or better and 12 were in the 60s -- including a string of seven-straight totals in the 60s across three different tournaments in the spring.
Perry shrugged off a tough fall season to earn the award with a stellar spring, eventually working his stroke average for the year down to 73.15, good for second on the team. He recorded five top-20 finishes and three top-10 results -- all during the spring -- while also going a perfect 4-0 at the Big Ten Match Play Championship in February to help NU to its third-straight title in the event. Perry had several notable rounds during the year highlighted by a bogey-free final-round 6-under 66 to vault into ninth place at the Barona Collegiate Cup in March.
