LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- On the eve of the NCAA San Antonio Regional, senior Jack Perry (Santa Barbara, Calif./Santa Barbara) earned medalist honors Monday at the 2014 U.S. Open Knollwood Local Qualifying site with a 4-under 68.

Perry advanced to Sectional qualifying where he has applied for the field at the massive and popular Columbus, Ohio, site -- which traditionally hosts after the PGA Tour's Memorial Tournament in Dublin and attracts a large number of current Tour members. Perry has a history of doing well in qualifiers: He also advanced out of Local Qualifying last year when he finished second at Northmoor Country Club, and he won the Rancho Sante Fe qualifier to make the field at the 2013 U.S. Amateur Championship.

Perry's 68 tied Andrew Hanson for top score Monday at Knollwood. Five spots were available at the site.

Perry was nicely familiar with the Knollwood layout; Northwestern hosted its home Windon Memorial Classic there in September. Perry finished as the runner-up in that tournament with a 5-under 211 that included a second-round 3-under 69. He was one of six Wildcats to attempt to get through local qualifying at Knollwood, but the lone player to advance.

Meanwhile, down the road at South Bend Country Club in South Bend, Ind., 2011 NU graduate David Lipsky was the medalist at that Local Qualifying site by a two-shot cushion after carding a 66. Lipsky currently is third on the Asian Tour Order of Merit after finishing second at the European Tour co-sponsored Championships at Laguna National two weeks ago.

Perry and his current Wildcats' teammates begin NCAA Regional play Thursday, May 15, at the San Antonio site.
