EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's final tune-up for the 2014 Big Ten Championships takes place this weekend, April 19-20, at Purdue's Boilermaker Invitational.

The Wildcats are one of 15 squads competing Saturday and Sunday on the Pete Dye designed Kampen Course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex, which will play to a par-72, 7,259-yard layout. The course served as the final on-campus site for the Big Ten Championships in 2011 before that tournament was moved to the Pete Dye Course at French Lick, Ind., the following season.

Saturday will feature 36 holes of play beginning with an 8:45 a.m. ET/7:45 a.m. CT shotgun start. Sunday also will have a morning shotgun start for the final round. Live scoring for this weekend's action will be available at Golfstat.com

Northwestern is one of six squads ranked in the current Golfstat.com top-50 and is one of seven Big Ten schools in the field. The entire field is comprised of No. 9 Illinois, No. 14 UCLA, No. 32 Kent State, No. 39 Purdue, No. 41 Iowa, No. 49 Northwestern, No. 56 Louisville, No. 61 Ohio State, No. 82 Indiana, No. 117 Wichita State, No. 140 Michigan State, No. 147 Miami (Ohio), No. 173 Toledo, No. 228 Drake and No. 252 Northern Illinois.

NU is coming off a t-8th finish last weekend at Ohio State's Kepler Intercollegiate. Andrew Whalen (Ephrata, Wash./Ephrata) challenged for the lead midway through the final round of that tournament, continuing a strong spring from the sophomore. He has emerged as a strong partner to senior Jack Perry (Santa Barbara, Calif./Santa Barbara), who is ranked as the No. 103 individual nationally by Golfstat in the most recent data.
