EVANSTON, Ill. -- After a one-year absence from the field, Northwestern returns to spring stroke play action Feb. 17-19 at the Puerto Rico Classic hosted by Purdue at Rio Mar Country Club in Rio Mar, Puerto Rico.
The three-day event will feature 18 holes per day on the 6,902-yard, par-72 tract. Live results will be available via Golfstat.com while NU head coach Pat Goss will provide live Twitter updates from the course @NUGolf_Live
The Puerto Rico Classic annually brings together a strong field from top to bottom and the 15-team 2013 edition is no different with all but one team currently residing inside the Golfstat.com top-100. Headlined by No. 6 Alabama, No. 8 Georgia Tech and No. 9 Georgia, the rest of the field is comprised of No. 20 SMU, No. 21 Clemson, No. 31 Northwestern, No. 36 North Carolina, No. 40 Oklahoma, No. 52 Virginia Tech, No. 66 Augusta State, No. 67 North Carolina State, No. 70 Ohio State, No. 78 East Tennessee State, No. 81 Purdue and No. 124 Michigan.
Northwestern senior Nick Losole
(Scottsdale, Ariz./Scottsdale Notre Dame) is the lone Wildcat in the current team lineup to have played at Rio Mar Country Club before. He opened the 2011 Puerto Rico Classic with a first round 2-under 70.
In addition to Losole, junior Jack Perry (Santa Barbara, Calif./Santa Barbara), sophomore Bennett Lavin (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield), sophomore Matthew Negri (El Cajon, Calif./Grossmont) and freshman Josh Jamieson (St. Andrews, Scotland/High School of Dundee).
