EVANSTON, Ill. -- Two-time defending champion Northwestern travels to Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla., February 10-11, for the fourth playing of the Big Ten Match Play Championship. The Wildcats have a 10-1 all-time record in the event, winning each of their last nine matches over the previous three years.

Senior Eric Chun (Ansung City, South Korea/International Christian School) will put his incredible unbeaten 10-0-1 all-time record in the event on the line to lead No. 7 seed Northwestern into its opening match Friday morning against No. 10 seed Penn State. Matches are set based on end-of-fall season ranking; the winner between the Wildcats and Nittany Lions will advance to play No. 2 seed Iowa Friday afternoon.

The Big Ten Match Play Championship is the only televised regular-season collegiate golf tournament in the country. BTN will film the event and air it as a highlight show multiple times throughout the year with its debut at 11 a.m. CT Sunday, March 11.

Each team match is comprised of six individual matches, each playing for one team point. NU's anticipated lineup is Chun, Jack Perry (Santa Barbara, Calif./Santa Barbara), Nick Losole (Scottsdale, Ariz./Scottsdale Notre Dame), Sam Chien (San Diego, Calif./Mt. Carmel), Bennett Lavin (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) and either Matthew Negri (El Cajon, Calif./Grossmont) or John Callahan (Hinsdale, Ill./Benet Academy).

Northwestern prepared for this weekend's tournament with its annual alumni match Saturday, Feb. 4, at The Bear's Club in Florida. The team faced a formidable alumni squad, featuring World No. 1 Luke Donald, current Nationwide Tour member Chris Wilson, former Illinois Amateur champion T.C. Ford, 2005 Eastern Amateur champion Kyle Moore, former PGA TOUR and Nationwide member Jess Daley and current competition editor at Global Golf Post Andy DeKeuster. That team combined for 17 individual college titles, three Big Ten individual and eight team championships and featured two first-team All-Americans.

The alumni won the match, 20.5 to 6.5, with Donald's 67 taking down Chien in a warm-up for the 1999 NCAA champ's WGC-Accenture Match Play title defense later this month. Wilson and Moore took all available points from Chun and Lavin, respectively. Losole, who is returning from an injury that severely limited him in the fall, played a tight match early against Ford while Dekeuster led Negri and Perry jumped all over Daley.

The Big Ten was the first conference to start a match play tournament four years ago when it sought to replicate the new NCAA Championships format which crowns a team national champion with an eight-team match play tournament. The first two playings were held at Heron Bay in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., before moving to the Champion Course at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. The 2012 edition will be played at the 7,470-yard, par-72 Concession Golf Course designed by Jack Nicklaus in association with Tony Jacklin. For the second-straight year, the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) will help administer the Championship.
