Northwestern Men's Golfer Luke Donald Named Finalist for James E. Sullivan Award
Jan. 5, 2000 EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern junior men's golfer Luke Donald was named one of 10 final candidates for the 1999 James E. Sullivan Memorial Award, given to the top amateur athlete of 1999. The Sullivan Award, which is presented by the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), recognizes athletes who have achieved athletic excellence while also exhibiting leadership, character, sportsmanship and the ideals of amateurism. The other nine finalists — in alphabetical order — are Christian Ahrens (rowing), Matt Busbee (swimming), Mateen Cleaves (men’s basketball), Ron Dayne (football), Jason Jennings (baseball), Coco & Kelly Miller (women’s basketball), Stephen Neal (wrestling), Stacey Nuveman (softball), and Mark Ruiz (diving). The 10 finalists will be reduced to a top five in mid-February, and from that group a national winner will be formally announced in late March in New York City.
