    FAIRFAX, Calif. -- With four of its golfers shooting under par, Northwestern heads into the final round of the Second Annual Alister MacKenzie Invitational with an eight-stroke lead over UCLA. The Wildcats shot an impressive 22-under 546 (272-274) on the par-71, 6,583-yard Meadow Club Course. Oregon State is 12 strokes behind in third place.

    Senior Tom Johnson (Sacramento, Calif./Del Campo) leads NU's contingent with a 7-under 135 (68-67). He is in second place, three strokes behind UCLA's Steve Conway. Last year, Johnson placed second at the Alister MacKenzie with an 8-under 205.

    Sophomore Bryson Young (Reno, Nev./Galena), senior Casey Strunk (Phoenix, Ariz./Thunderbird) and senior T.C. Ford (Covington, La./Mandeville) sit third, sixth and seventh, respectively. Young is 6-under (69-67=136), Strunk is 5-under (68-69=137) and Ford is 4-under (67-71=138). Sophomore Dillon Dougherty (Woodland, Calif./Woodland) is 1-over (72-71=143) and tied for 30th place.

    The Wildcats are shooting for their third tournament championship since the start of the 2002-03 season. Last year, Northwestern finished in a second-place tie (with UCLA) at the Alister MacKenzie, three strokes shy of Fresno State.
