    FAIRFAX, Calif. -- Paced by sophomore David Merkow (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead Union) and senior Dillon Dougherty (Woodland, Calif./Woodland), Northwestern shares the lead with Oregon State at the Third Annual Alister MacKenzie Invitational. The Wildcats are gunning for their second straight tournament title after winning their own Windon Memorial Classic championship one week ago.

    Merkow fired a career-best 4-under-par 67 in the second round and is 5-under (70-67=137) for the tournament. He is in second place, one stroke behind the leader, Travis Bertoni of Cal Poly.

    Dougherty shot a 2-under 140 (70-70) for the first 36 holes and is tied for fifth place, four strokes behind Bertoni.

    NU's other three golfers -- Dan Doyle (Rochester, Mich./Stoney Creek), Bryson Young (Reno, Nev./Galena) and Chris Wilson (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman, are all positioned 34th or better.

    California, the host school and defending national champion, is in fourth place, four strokes behind the Wildcats and Beavers.
