    Northwestern Finishes Fifth at Windon Memorial Classic

    GLENVIEW, Ill. -- Northwestern slipped a spot during the final round of action Monday at the Windon Memorial Classic, finishing with a score of 18-over 870 (289-289-292) to take fifth place in the 15-team field at North Shore Country Club.

    The Wildcats bested sixth-place Purdue by four strokes while finishing three strokes short of fourth-place Kent State. Illinois claimed the team crown with a 9-under 843, while Indiana's Jorge Campillo made a huge final-round charge with a Monday score of 8-under 63 to capture medalist honors by two strokes with an overall total of 8-under 205.

    Also of note in Monday's final round were a pair of eagles on consecutive par 4s made by New Mexico's Brandon Putnam, who holed out on his second shot on both the 381-yard fifth hole and 418-yard sixth.

    Teams in the field ranked in the top 50 of the Golfweek/Sagarin ratings included No. 11 Illinois (1st), No. 14 Colorado (11th), No. 17 Michigan (7th), No. 29 Tulsa (3rd), No. 30 New Mexico (12th) and No. 37 Indiana (2nd).

    Freshman Eric Chun (Ansung City, South Korea/International Christian School) led Northwestern with his first-career top-20 finish, coming in 13th with a 54-hole total of 2-over 215 (73-72-70). Chun fired a 1-under 70 on Monday after making four birdies on the back nine.

    Senior Andy DeKeuster (Franksville, Wis./Racine Lutheran) recorded his third-career top-20 finish with a 4-over 217 (71-73-73), carding a final-round score of 2-over 73. Also in the top-20 for Northwestern was sophomore Josh Dupont (Poway, Calif./Cathedral Catholic), who played as an individual in the tournament. Dupont's 4-over 217 (72-74-71) included a final round effort of even-par 71 with four birdies and four bogies.

    NU's top scorer through the first two rounds was David Lipsky (La Canada, Calif./La Canada), who carded a 5-over 218 (72-71-75) to take 25th following Monday's action. Jonathan Bowers (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) fought his way to a 3-over 74 in the final round to end up 49th at 12-over 225 (78-73-74) for the tournament.

    Rounding out NU's team participants was Matt Denison (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North), who finished 62nd with a 15-over 228 (73-79-76).

    Playing in the tournaments as individual alongside Dupont were sophomore Ravi Patel (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) and freshman Sam Chien (San Diego, Calif./Mt. Carmel). Patel finished 44th with a 10-over 223 (75-74-74) while Chien was 54th with a 13-over 226 (75-75-76).

    The final round was delayed while three teams finished their second rounds on Monday morning. Play Sunday was suspended due to darkness.
