OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. -- Northwestern shot back-to-back rounds of 293 at Olympia Fields Country Club Sunday, and finds itself in sixth place at the Olympia Fields Country Club/Fighting Illini Invitational with a two-round score of 586.

Stanford, which won the Gopher Invitational that the 'Cats participated in last weekend, currently leads with a score of 575, but No. 24 Northwestern is within striking distance, only 11 shots back.

The morning round ended with the Wildcats in a three-way tie for fifth place, led by Dan Doyle's (Rochester, Mich./Stoney Creek) 2-over par 72. With 36 holes complete, Doyle finds himself in a tie for 29th with a total of 149 after a second-round 77.

Freshman Jonathan Bowers (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Watterson), coming off a top-10 finish last weekend, is again in position to post another solid showing. Bowers, who is 2-under par on Olympia Fields' two par fives, leads the 'Cats with a 4-over 144 and sits in a tie for 10th heading into the final 18 holes.

Right behind Bowers in a tie for 13th is senior David Merkow (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead Union). Merkow finished the first 36 with a 5-over total of 145 and is tied for the second-most birdies in the event with seven.

The final Wildcat currently in the top-30 is Chris Wilson (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman), who shot back-to-back rounds of 74 and is in a tie for 25th.

In between Northwestern and tournament leader Stanford on the leaderboard are defending NCAA champion Oklahoma State, Duke, and Big Ten rivals Minnesota and Purdue.

The 'Cats will be the first team off the tee as the final 18 holes begin at 7:30 a.m. Monday.
