GLENCOE, Ill. -- With play suspended due to darkness late in the second round Sunday, Northwestern currently is in first place at the 2012 Windon Memorial Classic at Skokie Country Club.
All scores from the second round currently are unofficial until it is completed Monday morning. With just one round officially in the books, NU's John Callahan (Hinsdale, Ill./Benet Academy) is in first place at 2-under 69 while NU holds a two-stroke team edge over second-place Coastal Carolina following an 8-over 292. Callahan is not in NU's team lineup, but rather is competing as an individual in the tourney. In terms of the Wildcats' team tally, senior Nick Losole (Scottsdale, Ariz./Scottsdale Notre Dame) leads the way at 1-under 70 while standing second overall.

Losole had a rough start to his final Windon Memorial, going bogey-bogey on his first two holes. He held serve after that to turn at 2-over 37, then went to work on the back nine despite the increasing wind. Losole carded his first birdie on the par-5 11th before making another at No. 15 and a third at No. 17 for a 3-under 33 on the back nine and an opening 1-under 70.
Junior Jack Perry (Santa Barbara, Calif./Santa Barbara) made three bogeys and a birdie at the par-5 seventh hole to turn at 2-over 37, then quickly made birdie at Nos. 10 and 11 to get back to even par. A subsequent bogey at No. 12 put Perry at 1-over, where he stayed the rest of the way for an opening 1-over 72.
Freshman Andrew Whalen (Ephrata, Wash./Ephrata Senior) carded a 2-over 37 in his opening nine of the Windon, then got back to even with back-to-back birdies at Nos. 10 and 11. On 10, he hit a wedge approach to three feet for birdie before reaching the par-5 11th in two for a two-putt birdie. Three-straight bogeys from Nos. 14 to 16, however, put the rookie at 3-over 74 in the morning.
Sophomore Bennett Lavin (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) began with two-straight bogeys Sunday, then reeled off eight-straight pars. A 3-over 39 on the back nine led to a first-round 5-over 76.
Sophomore Matthew Negri (El Cajon, Calif./Grossmont) birdied two of Skokie's three par-5 holes Sunday morning, but six bogeys and two more double bogeys contributed to an opening 8-over 79.
Playing as an individual, Callahan held the lead after the first round. Starting on the back nine, Callahan alternated a birdie and bogey at Nos. 11 and 12 before back-to-back birdies at the lengthy 250-yard par-3 16th and the par-4 17th. Callahan held steady before briefly reaching 3-under with a birdie at the par-5 seventh, but a bogey at No. 8 gave him a career-best 2-under 69 -- still good for a one-shot lead entering the afternoon round.
Freshman Josh Jamieson (St. Andrews, Scotland/High School of Dundee) found himself 4-over through seven holes Monday morning, but recovered to play the rest of the round in even par for a 4-over 75.
Playing the first competitive round of his college career, redshirt freshman Scott Smith (Pepper Pike, Ohio/University School) carded a 4-over 40 on the back nine after teeing off at No. 10. After the turn, he quickly made birdie at No. 3 then six-straight pars before finishing with back-to-back bogeys on his last two holes for an opening 5-over 76.
