    Round Two Results

SAN ANTONIO -- Northwestern has concluded day two of play at the NCAA San Antonio Regional at Briggs Ranch Golf Course.

Northwestern's day began in wild fashion on the back side after teeing off at No. 10 to start the round. The five members of the squad combined to card just 17 pars out of 45 total holes in their opening nine. Though nine birdies were made, unfortunately so were many bogeys, leading to a rough start on moving day at the Regional.

Scoring did not get much better on the homeward nine, leading to a team tally of 15-over 303 and a 36-hole total of 26-over 602 (299-303). Northwestern is in 13th place among the field of the same number, 11 shots behind a tie for 11th between Columbia and No. 30 South Florida.

Sophomore Andrew Whalen (Ephrata, Wash./Ephrata) entered the day in 15th place as an individual and looked to remain in the top-20 before a rough finishing stretch left him 31st in the field. He made two early bogeys before getting a great look at eagle on the 603-yard par-5 13th hole. He would end up with birdie there to kickstart a stretch of three birdies in four holes that saw him turn at 1-over par.

Whalen immediately got back to level par with a birdie at No. 1, then followed five more pars with a birdie at the par-5 seventh to reach 1-under for the day. A double-bogey, bogey finish, however, left him at 2-over 74 for the round and 2-over 146 (72-74) for the tournament.

Junior Matthew Negri (El Cajon, Calif./Grossmont) made a six-shot improvement over his opening round Thursday with a second-round 2-over 74. He bounced back from two early bogeys Friday with back-to-back birdies at the short 314-yard par-4 14th and the lengthy 206-yard par-3 15th. He would make the turn at 2-over 38 and eventually find himself 3-over par following a bogey at No. 5 before a fourth birdie of the day at the seventh to move up to 68th position at 10-over 154 (80-74).

Senior Jack Perry (Santa Barbara, Calif./Santa Barbara) had an uncharacteristic day on the course. The 2013 All-American and current No. 88 ranked individual in the country had three bogeys and one double bogey in his first six holes, and eventually found himself 7-over par through 11 holes after a second double bogey at No. 2. He played the final seven holes after that in 2-under thanks in large part to an eagle at the 562-yard par-5 seventh hole to finish at 5-over 77.

Perry fell from sixth-place individually entering the day to 39th at 3-over 147 (70-77).

Sophomore Josh Jamieson (St. Andrews, Scotland/High School of Dundee) was rolling right along with five pars to start his Friday, then hit a 4-over par stretch on three holes from Nos. 15 through 17. After making the turn, had two more bogeys against seven pars for a 6-over 78 and a 36-hole total of 13-over 157 (79-78). Jamieson still is in search of his first birdie of the Regional.

Senior John Callahan (Hinsdale, Ill./Benet Academy) had three birdies in his second round, but three double bogeys and one triple bogey led to an 11-over 83. Callahan's two-round score is a 74th-place 17-over 161 (78-83).

The NCAA San Antonio Regional concludes tomorrow, Saturday, May 17, with the third and final round of play.
