    EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Northwestern dropped three spots to fifth place during the third round of the Big Ten Championships Saturday at Forest Akers West Golf Course in East Lansing, Mich.

    The Wildcats shot a 21-over 309 in the third round, currently standing at 29-over 893 for the tournament. NU is three strokes in front of sixth-place Michigan and eight strokes behind fourth-place Indiana. Michigan State leads the event with a 54-hole total of 8-over 872 following a 2-under 286 on Saturday.

    Sophomore Jonathan Bowers (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) remained in the top-10 in the tournament after leading NU with a 4-over 76 on Saturday. Bowers dropped two places from seventh overall to ninth with his 54-hole total of 4-over 220.

    Freshman Josh Dupont (Poway, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) had the Wildcats' second-best round of the day Saturday with a five-over 77. Dupont had a disastrous front side with a 7-over 43 before making three birdies against just one bogey on the back side to finish the day in 26th place overall with a 12-over 228 (79-72-77).

    Senior Kyle Moore (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Scioto) began his day with birdies on the second and fifth holes Saturday before ending up with a 6-over 78, remaining in the top 20 overall with a three-round total of 10-over 226 (73-75-78).

    Fellow senior Dan Doyle (Rochester, Mich./Stoney Creek) also had a 6-over 78 Saturday to stand at 15-over 231 for the tourney (77-76-78).

    Though he did not score for NU on Saturday after carding a 9-over 81, sophomore David Lipsky (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) still is in a four-way tie for 12th place in the tournament with a 54-hole total of 8-over 224 (72-71-81).

    The final round of the Big Ten Championships begins at 8 a.m. CT tomorrow, Sunday, April 27, at Forest Akers West.
