URBANA, Ill. -- Following one round of play at the Illini Spring Classic Saturday at Stone Creek Golf Club in Urbana, Ill., Northwestern is in seventh position in the 14-team field. Due to awful weather, the second round was suspended shortly after it began and will be completed Sunday as part of a shortened 36-hole tournament.

Teams battled the conditions all day long. Midway through the first round, head coach Pat Goss tweeted that "the first six holes today may have been the toughest weather in my career." Temperatures fluctuated between cold and colder with rain spitting on and off throughout a very cold day until play was suspended early in the second round.

"Play now suspended due to...I'm not quite sure," tweeted Goss. "General miserableness and maybe wind with the potential for the ball to move on the green."

Final results from the first round put NU in seventh at 20-over 208, two strokes behind Purdue and Illinois State in a fifth-place tie. Northwestern is three shots in front of eighth-place Penn State.

Junior Eric Chun (Ansung City, South Korea/International Christian School) leads Northwestern after an opening-round 2-over 74 that put him eighth in the field individually. He began his day with a birdie on No. 6, but immediately found trouble with a triple bogey on the next hole. He battled the rest of the day, responding to all three of his bogeys with immediate birdies to remain at 2-over.

Through four holes in his second round, Chun is 1-under par following a birdie on the 219-yard, par-3 seventh -- the same hole he made triple bogey on during the first round.

Senior David Lipsky (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) is one shot behind Chun at 3-over 75. Lipsky quickly got to 2-under par on his morning with birdies on his first and third holes (which were Nos. 4 and 6 in the shotgun start). A double bogey at No. 10 and back-to-back bogeys on holes 17 and 18 left him at 3-over 75 for the day.

In the second round, Lipsky has completed three holes of play and is even after a birdie at No. 4 and a bogey at No. 5.

Freshman Brad Shigezawa (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou Academy) had a bad start to his day, eventually getting to 5-over par through six holes. A birdie at No. 11 stabilized things a bit before a double bogey at No. 17 helped account for a 7-over 79 and a 40th-place position in the field.

Shigezawa has completed four holes in the second round, making par on each one.

Freshman Jack Perry (Santa Barbara, Calif./Santa Barbara) is one stroke behind Shigezawa in 47th place at 8-over 80. Perry did not have a "blow up" hole on his day, but did card nine bogeys against one birdie while going 2-for-11 in up-and-down chances to account for his 80.

Before play was suspended for the second round, Perry made bogey on his first hole and par on his next two to sit at 1-over par with 15 to play.

Sophomore Nick Losole (Scottsdale, Ariz./Scottsdale Notre Dame) made a birdie on his seventh hole Saturday morning to get to 2-over par, but four double bogeys on the way in accounted for an 11-over 83, placing him 60th in the field. Losole is 2-over through five holes on his second round.

The Illini Spring Classic concludes tomorrow, Sunday, April 17, with the completion of the second and now final round from Stone Creek Golf Club. Live results can be found at Golfstat.com while live Goss tweets from the course are available at @NUGolf_Live.
