WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Northwestern received even-par 72's from junior Dan Doyle (Rochester, Mich./Stoney Creek) and senior David Merkow (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead Union) on Sunday to help the Wildcats finish in a second-place tie with the host Purdue Boilermakers at the Boilermaker Invitational.

Michigan State won the tournament by finishing nine strokes ahead of the Wildcats and Boilers.

Doyle finished fourth overall with a 4-over 148 (76-72) while Merkow placed ninth a shot back (5-over 149, 77-72). For Doyle, the fourth-place finish equaled his career-best showing, which came earlier this year at the CordeValle Collegiate.

Senior Chris Wilson (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) finished 15th after recording a 1-over 73 on Sunday. Wilson, who notched his fifth top-20 finish in six events, was 6-over (77-73=150) for the tournament.

Junior Kyle Moore (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Scioto) and freshman Jonathan Bowers (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) both fired 5-over 77's on Sunday to finish 43rd and 60th, respectively. Moore had an 11-over 155 (78-77) while Bowers was 14-over (81-77=158).

Northwestern, ranked 37th in the latest GolfweekSagarin ratings, earned some important wins, finishing ahead of No. 28 Auburn, No. 31 Baylor, No. 32 Washington and No. 33 Wisconsin.

The Wildcats are back in action next weekend, playing at the Kepler Intercollegiate. Northwestern is the defending Kepler champion.
